The very expensive day
October 24, 2007 -- 5:55 am
...speaking of calm...yesterday was anything but. Yesterday ended up being this crazy, wonderful whirlwind of a day. It started out with Brannon sleeping in...or something. He was going to be at the house at 7:30 so that I could get the kids off to school and he could meet the carpet cleaning people. He called me after 7:30 and said he was on his way in about 10 minutes. I left the house at 8:15 to get the kids to school. When I got home from dropping the kids off, he was there. The carpet people showed up before 9. The carpets always look so amazing when they are freshly cleaned. I do not understand how they get so blooming nasty in such a short amount of time. Well, Brannon suggested I buy some huge cheap area rugs to just set right on top of the carpet to help protect it. Did I mention that yesterday was a VERY EXPENSIVE DAY??!!! It was. I cleaned the carpet, that was over 100 dollars. After Stanley Steemer left, Brannon and I needed to go to my father's work place to pick up a tile cutter. One of our next projects is tiling the bathroom floor. My dad is being so gracious as to let us borrow all his tools, including a diamond cutting blade for the saw, the saw itself, the tile cutter, and everything else we need, right down to knee pads.
Brannon had backed out of the driveway and was in the middle of the street when my neighbor's daughter backed out her driveway like a bat out of hell. She wasn't looking at all. Brannon was paying attention...watching this whole thing unfold. As he looked in his mirror and saw that she was backing up QUICK and had no intentions of stopping, he quickly slammed his BRAND NEW TRUCK!! into drive to try to avoid her insanity, but it was to no avail. She plowed right into him. I had no idea what had just happened and the first thing I asked him was if he had hit one of my animals. Yeah, he wasn't too happy about that either. But when he got out of his truck and saw the damage, he was PISSED. Rightfully so I might add. His BRAND NEW TRUCK. Beautiful bright shiney red, less than 500 miles new truck. Do you know that she didn't even say sorry??? It was completely her fault and not so much of a, "Hey sorry I just SMASHED YOUR NEW TRUCK". People suck, by the way.
So, that was how our morning started off. Brannon and I both running late, spending money on the lunacy that is my carpet, and being smacked by the neighbor. He told her he wouldn't file a police report and to just give him her insurance. After that we were off to my father's place of work. We picked up the stuff and headed to Lowes. We purchased some outlet covers for the kitchen and he bought a ball hitch for the truck. We went to McAllisters for lunch and then decided to head home. We were just a couple of blocks from home, heading south on Glenstone. We were approaching the Route 66 Victory bike shop. Brannon asked if I minded if we stopped in to look around. Brannon owns a 2004 Victory Kingpin. It's a beautiful bike, and the bike store is one of his favorite sins. We stopped in to look around and somehow left the store with a brand new bikers jacket for me. Yeah. Not quite sure how that happened. That was NOT the intent. But we were inside looking around, looking at all the slutty biker babe tanks and shirts and other cool stuff, and we happened to wander over to the women's jackets. They had this black jacket that especially caught my eye, because, well, I should be embarrassed to say it, but it had pink stripes. I am all about the pink. Brannon insisted I try it on. I did, it fit like a glove. I guessed at what I thought the price tag would be. We were close, but then the tag said half off. Which was still expensive to me, but I guess Brannon thought that since he was going to be buying me a jacket come spring anyway, why not save 50% and get this one. It was perfect. It fit perfect, it looked perfect, and hell, it had pink on it. It is a Victory jacket. If I haven't said it enough, I just want to say a big THANK YOU one more time. It's beautiful.
So, tally it up thus far...carpets cleaned, new rugs for the living room, smashed in truck, lunch, new leather jacket. Pretty expensive morning. We got home and started working on projects. We have shelves we (ok, Brannon) is putting up. By the time we farted around with everything, it was time to get the kids from school. We get to school and Jacob has about ruined his backpack. He hasn't gotten a new one in several years, so when we got home I promised him a trip to the store to pick out a back pack. While at Satan's playground, aka Walmart, I found 2 pairs of sweat pants I couldn't live without, and two black sweaters. One is solid black, the other is black and gray striped. Both super cute. And cheap, 12 dollars each. You can't hardly beat that. I showed them to Brannon when we got home. He liked them and said they were keepers.
After Jake and I had gotten home, we fixed breakfast for dinner. I forgot the biscuits, but other than that it was great. We had eggs and hash browns and turkey bacon. After dinner I came unglued. I don't know, I think I just snapped. The problem is this. The kids are HUGE into WOW. World of Warcraft. It's crack. And my kids are in deep. I actually don't have a problem with the game, other than the fact that the computer that they got for Christmas will not accommodate it. So the kids have been completely commandeering my computer, which is capable of handling the game. Last night, after 3 months of this, I lost it. I told the kids they needed to get off my computer once and for all. I had HAD IT!!
Brannon suggested that maybe Jacob could blow his wad of cash that he got for his birthday (to the tune of almost 300 dollars) on a new tower that WOULD accommodate WOW. So, it was off to Best Buy. Well, Brannon and the kids went, I stayed home and studied for my Marketing test (which is this morning, and in which I am NOT feeling prepared). When they got home, Brannon, being Brannon, had bought ALOT MORE COMPUTER TOWER than we had talked about. Uh huh. I didn't know whether to kiss him or smack him. That tally, that one that is running in my head, the one that was thinking, ok, how much money have we spent today?? More like, how much money has Brannon spent today??? Let's see, we have the carpet cleaning, new rugs, the smacked truck, Lowes, lunch, a new leather jacket, gas in the van, 2 new sweaters, 2 pairs of sweat pants, a back pack, a COMPUTER!!! Wow, that's Christmas right there. We even joked about that. Now, Brannon didn't pay for that entire tally, but most of it his.
There is so much I could say, and so much that I haven't said. Of course, there are things going on in this house that most people aren't aware of, and that's ok. One could read alot into it. And on the outside, that is how it's going to appear. But you never know what goes on behind closed doors. I can only say that I am so very lucky to have such a caring man in my life. Brannon has treated me like a queen every single day for the past 3 months...without exception. And yet, he thinks he is the lucky one. I have always felt, and will always feel, that God put us in each others path for a reason. Every day that just becomes more and more clear to us both.
