[May 08, 2008]

I have been meaning to update. In fact, every day I think of something interesting and new to talk about. The problem is, I never take the time any more to write down my thoughts.

Well, what have I been up to?

I got married. The wedding was lovely. We had friends and family in from Alabama and Michigan, along with all the local folks. It was lovely. The weather sucked, but it was so nice inside. Completely wonderful.

Instead of going on a honeymoon, we have been spending time and money on both houses. Tuesday Brannon refinished all but 2 of the hardwood floors in the Barnes House. Here on the homefront I have been planting flowers by the truckload. I also got a pick up truck load of mulch and have been spreading that thick all over the landscaping. I have about half of the landscape gravel dug up and have replaced that with mulch. I hate landscape gravel. I know some people think it's great, and it is quite expensive, but pulling weeds from it is impossible because then you get the dirt in the gravel and it doesn't go away. Then you just have muddy rock. And it doesn't decay into great soil over time. I enjoy turning over my beds every couple of years and having this rich healthy soil. With rock, all you have, is well, rock. And that black felt crap that's underneath it? I also think that is a horrible waste of time. I would honestly rather just pull the weeds. Call me strange. So all that is coming up. It has been grueling backbreaking work, but it looks so much better if I do say so myself. Some very happy freecyclers have been more than eager to come pick that stuff up for me and take it away.

I am having a great time at work. Those guys just make me laugh daily. The other day Richard comes to me with a file in hand. We have several very large personal injury and workman's comp cases pending. It is my responsibility to obtain all the medical records and itemized billing statements and to keep the files organized with dates and times and amounts and all that good stuff. Well, having some nursing background has proven very beneficial to me. Richard handed me one of the files we are working on and asked me to explain the CT scan results to him.

1. Head injury with visible trauma. Dark spots on the scan. Concussion.

2. Injury to tibia. Nothing broken but has a fracture.

3. Appears patient has a tongue ring. Tongue ring currently showing up in the caecum CT scan.

Richard points at number 3 and goes, what is that? So our client has a tongue ring and it's showing up on the CT scan? Is it in his head somewhere? And I looked at the file and said, well Richard, it's like this. Indeed our client does have a tongue ring, but it's not in his head. Richard looks at me like I have a third eye. I go on to explain to him that the tongue ring has clearly come out of his tongue. He has swallowed it. It is currently stuck in a part of his intestines/colon region. Richard's eyes got wide. I said, "That's right Richard, he swallowed his tongue ring and it's stuck in his pooper." I handed the file back to Richard and listened as he cackled all the back to his office. He started yelling at Canyon that our client has his tongue ring stuck in his shitter. And the two of them howled like they were in the 5th grade. I just sat at my desk and chuckled. That is how about 80% of my work days go. How can you be stressed at work when you can't believe 90% of what you are dealing with daily? It's a regular sit com around there. Speaking of sit coms, here is a little "office" humor to round out this entry.

I will be posting, God willing, pictures of the house and stuff in the next day or two on my Myspace. So be looking.
