[May 29, 2008]

I am enjoying my second to last day of having the kids in school. I have been spoiled this school year. I work in the mornings and then get home around noon, and I have until 4 to do pretty much anything I want (outside of Jody's schedule). This afternoon I went to the Barnes house and loaded up a bunch of crappy drywall and R-19 insulation. I took it all out to my Dad's workplace near the airport. He needed the insulation for a project he is working on, and he let me dump the drywall in the company's huge compacter. What a blessing for both of us. I'm very cheap these days (having to make 2 house payments and 2 utility payments) and I didn't want to have to pay 30 or 40 dollars to take it to the dump. Talk about man's work. Hauling that NASTY GROSS drywall is just...NOT FUN. But I did it. I rewarded myself with a trip to the DAV thrift shop. I spent 7 dollars on two skirts, both name brand. One is purplely sheer fabric and just fun, the other is a light tan with black flowers and made of silk. Both fit me perfectly. And at 3 and 4 dollars a skirt, one can hardly complain. I always find the prettiest skirts at the thrift shop. I was telling Brannon the other day that not many people are my size (0-2, depending on the brand) and most people who are my size just happen to be rich (you know the saying, you can never be too rich or too thin, and rich people are usually both, at least most of the women that I know in that tax bracket seem to subscribe to that theory). And who benefits? ME!! Most rich women don't care to have garage sales, they just want it gone (so they can shop more and refill their closets, so Brannon says), so they drop it off at the local thrift shops. Any time I have 10 dollars burning a hole in my pocket, I just trot myself off to one of the many stores we have in this town. I think Lauren and I shall spend our summer discovering every single one of them.

In other exciting news, the Barnes house is officially almost done. We have to paint Jody's old room, and finish the paint on the ceiling in the family room. We have a little bit of clean up to do, and take down the windows in the sunroom and replace it with screen, and then I think we are ready to show. Brannon is going to do a final sanding on all the hardwood floors and a final coat of poly and we are finished. Oh, and I guess we are going to paint the garage doors, but that won't take but an hour. Sounds like a lot, but it's nothing compared to what we started with.

We have a new billing system at work, and I am pleased to announce that I am really not as stupid as I think I am in the computer department. Normally I am NOT GOOD WITH SOFTWARE, as you can ask my husband. I can barely operate Iphoto on the Mac without shedding a tear or ten. My law firm had purchased this software months before I ever came to work for them, and no one there could figure it out. They don't give you a book, cliff notes would be more accurate. And you have to somewhat know a thing or two about bookkeeping. I am my mother's daughter. I guess her bookkeeping abilities really did get passed on...now if only I could balance my checkbook...
